Barbara Mazzolai, Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia, Center for Micro-BioRobotics, Italy

Abstract

Soft Robotics is a growing area of research, at international level. Projects and publications in this field are increasing at a fast pace and an interdisciplinary active community is growing around this field. Such community is gathering around the IEEE TC on Soft Robotics and, at European level, around the RoboSoft Coordination Action, funded by the European Commission in the FET Open programme (http://www.robosoftca.eu/).
Soft Robotics is an interdisciplinary field in robotics linking know-how from material science, mechanical/electrical engineering, control engineering, chemistry, physics, computer science, biology and medicine. This workshop aims at giving a view on the latest achievements in the field of soft robotics, through invited talks, showing how not only animals but also plants can provide important principles and concepts for developing new technologies.
The workshop will devote a part of time to a discussion on the potential and perspectives of bioinspired soft robotics, aimed at stimulating exchange of ideas and perspectives on the critical issues addressed. ALL ATTENDEES ARE INVITED TO SHARE THEIR VIEWS!
